Zeek’s GetWrite Mixtape Hot 16 Contest Entry

Share with the GetWrite Community who Zeek is as an artist and a person.

Zeek is just your ordinary emcee trying to make a name for myself in the music industry. I started recording at the end of 09 and have been aiming my focus on mastering my craft ever since. I rap in a group called the “Skavengerz” straight out of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania…We plan on being a big asset to the music industry sometime soon. We just need help with the promotion part…we are artist grinding independently, so things tend to get all discombobulated at times.

What or who inspires you to be an emcee ?

To be honest…the reason I pick up the mic is to bring a plate to the table that a lot of people forgot how to make…and to be an emcee who can elaborate his thoughts on a beat,  or without an instrumental.  I have a lot to say, and there is a lot I experienced.  I will open eyes and turn the heads of a lot of artist who are already signed or are on their way to getting signed…lets just say that ima be that flame up under the industries ass.

3.    What do you want people to get from the music that you make?

All I am looking for is acceptance…you will understand what I mean in the future, on upcoming mixtapes. I want the people to acknowledge me for my lyricism and what I speak…not what goes on in the background. that’s when your fans start to lose focus.
4.    Are you currently working on any new projects?

Oh yea…i have over 50 tracks that are in the making. Not to include group projects…but I don’t want to speak to heavy on details due to processing. A lot of ideas are in the air, but have not been settled.

5.    Where Can people get more of your music ?

You can find more music from myself as well as the Skavengerz on https://www.reverbnation.com/hbgskavengerz

SNEAK PEEK: Lil Wayne & Bruno Mars “Mirror” (VIDEO)

January 28, 2012 Leave a comment

Sometimes the hardest person to face is the one staring at you in the mirror.

It’s a topic that Lil Wayne and Bruno Mars dive right into for “Mirror,” one of the bonus tracks off of Wayne’s Tha Carter IV.

The super serious and deep track was one of the better songs on Wayne’s latest album, so we were ecstatic to find out the dreaded one was releasing it as a single and shooting a video it.

The full video isn’t out yet, but Wayne just put out a teaser for the clip.

We don’t get much from the teaser, but what we get is interesting.

The video is dark, yet full of color as we see Wayne get all messy, throwing a variety of colorful paint around.

It definitely looks hot and creative. But what else do you expect from Wayne?

“Mirror” is the fifth single off of Lil Wayne’s ninth studio album, “Tha Carter IV.”

Red Cafe On French Montana: ”He Put His Plan In Motion”

January 28, 2012 Leave a comment

Rapper Red Cafe revealed in an interview with 107.5’s DJ MoonDawg that he first brought up the idea of signing French to hip hop mogul Diddy. French signed with Bad Boy Records several weeks ago after several months of speculation as to where he would land.

“Me and French been rocking for years. I been watching French and French had a plan and he put his plan in motion. And his plan is blossoming now into something that’s real beautiful,” Red Cafe explained. “His grind is impeccable. I respect French totally. I brought the idea to Puff to sign French. I was like ‘Yo dawg, this is my homie and this is what he doing.’ And you know Puff was in L.A…And this was before everybody else wanted him. We was like right there though, we was like right on the time before anybody else wanted to get down with his movement. I was like ‘Yo dawg, listen. Open ya ears up and focus up on this. This is a dope move.’ So I respect that I support French movement.”

“I was in business with Akon and he was going over to Akon…I said ‘Dawg, I don’t know if that’s the move you want to make.’ I’mma keep it 100. ‘Kon is the homie, he’s a great person but business is business,” sad Red Café. “It is what it is. I gotta feed my family. Business is business. So French as my homie I was like ‘I don’t know if that’s the move you wanna do.’ But then I cosigned the Bad Boy move…I just think sky’s the limit with it. I think it’s a great thing.”

Amy Winehouse’s Dad Is NOT Happy With Jean Paul Gaultier (DETAILS)

January 28, 2012 Leave a comment

We don’t know if it is cool, sweet, or just downright creepy, but Jean Paul Gautier remembered the late Amy Winehouse by having all of his models dress in her likeness for his Spring 2012 Couture show.

It seems that the tribute to Winehouse that we thought was a bit creepy to begin with, was not well received by her family.

In an interview with the SunMitch Winehouse explained:

To see her image lifted wholesale to sell clothes was a wrench we were not expecting or consulted on. No one asked us for permission or offered to make a donation to the foundation.

He goe on to say:

We’re proud of her influence on fashion but find black veils on models, smoking cigarettes with a barbershop quartet singing her music in bad taste. It portrays a view of Amy when she was not at her best and glamorizes some of the more upsetting times in her life. That’s upsetting for her family.

We definitely agree with Amy’s dad.

Jean Paul Gaultier could have donated something to the Amy Winehouse foundation or at the very least he could have given the family a heads up.  Maybe including them in the process would have made the blow a bit softer.

Amy has only been gone for 6 months, and to the family and to many of her fans, this display of “support” was a case of too much too soon.

Following the Billboard honor, Cash Money’s Birdman issued a statement accepting the accolade.

“We got so much more we need to do,” Birdman says. “We dominate rap, but we need to dominate R&B. We need to dominate pop, gospel, country–we’re a brand, so we should be able to put out all these different types of music. We just got to keep grinding.” (Statement)

Rather than focusing purely on selling ability, Billboard’s Power list centered on business success and power moves.

The Billboard Power 100 list is about more than album and ticket sales; the artists featured are all actively involved in making impactful business decisions for their careers. In the case of Beyonce, she has recently been behind multi-million-dollar branding deals with L’Oreal, Coty and Target, and her clothing line House of Dereon continues to boast an international presence. Meanwhile, Jay-Z is one of the most celebrated artists to make the jump from the stage to the boardroom. He served as CEO of Def Jam Records and, in 2008, brokered a deal with Live Nation (said to be worth $150 million) to create Roc Nation, a management, music and entertainment company with a roster that includes Rihanna, J. Cole, Willow Smith and Ester Dean. His interests outside of music (Rocawear, Translation Advertising and stakes in 40/40 Club and the New Jersey Nets) have also grabbed headlines and helped to feed his bottom line. (Billboard)

Kendrick Lamar Describes “Section.80″ As “The Most Relatable Project For My Generation”

K. Dot also explains the line “don’t mistake me for no fuckin’ rapper.”

Kendrick Lamar Describes "Section.80" As "The Most Relatable Project For My Generation"

Kendrick Lamar dropped one of 2011′s best albums,Section.80, which addressed the difficulties faced by his generation. Speaking with Fly Times Daily, K.Dot described the LP as the most relatable body of work for those his age and voices the hardships they encounter.

Section.80, I would describe it as the most relatable project for my generation,” he said. “When I saySection.80, I say everything from 1980 to 2012, everything between that, from start to finish. That’s what it represents, period.”

He also touched on the LP’s opening track ”Fuck Your Ethnicity,”  elaborating on what he meant by the line “Matter fact, don’t mistake me for no fuckin’ rapper.” He said that artists tend to become bigger than themselves, but that he wants fans to know that he’s human first.

“Of course, I’m a rapper, but what I feel when I say that it’s bringing back the actual feeling of letting people know that you’re human. I think that’s what happens when you’re constantly listening to the radio and you’re constantly watching TV. You feel like you can’t touch these people. The artist gives off that vibe too. You’re not supposed to grab them, you’re not supposed to feel the same way. But at the end of the day, we’re all human beings. So when I say lines like that, don’t mistake me for no fuckin’ rapper, know that I am human. That’s first. Then, I’m an artist.”

K’Naan Discusses Nas Africa Comments, ”It’s An Unfortunate Circumstance…”

January 28, 2012 Leave a comment

Somalian rapper K’Naan shared his thoughts on comments fellow rapper Nas made several months back regarding relations between Africans and African Americans. “One thing about us African-Americans and Africans, we don’t communicate. We don’t talk. We don’t see a reason to talk. We don’t even get along,” Nas said at the time. “There’s a lot of Africans that don’t like African Americans, at all. They look down on us; they got their own little racial names for us. We’ve been pulled apart, for years.”

“I think he’s right,” K’Naan told HipHopDX. “And it’s an unfortunate circumstance. But you know, me and Nas talk, all the time. I talked to Nas yesterday. So I think the responsibility [to bridge that divide] is partly with us as artists. That’s why you got songs like “Nothing To Lose.” That’s why you got albums like the Distant Relatives album with Nas and Damian Marley. That’s why when me and Wale do something [it’s to] try to expand the scope of what people are thinking about with regards to Africa. That’s why it means something. The generations are changing and right now Africans and the way they think of African-Americans, or African-Americans and the way that they view Africans, is changing dramatically because we’re able to see each other a lot more, we’re able to communicate a lot more. The Internet has changed the distancing tools that have been used for so long [to divide us]. So the excuses are very shallow now.

What Really Happened Before Kanye’s Infamous Car Crash?

January 27, 2012 Leave a comment

One of the incidents that helped launch Kanye West into superstardom was the infamous car crash he was involved in back in 2002.

We’ve all heard the music and seen the pictures. Now details about what really went down are starting to come out.

DJ Whoo Kid, who was with Kanye West before he got in the car that night, spoke about the incident and gave details about what let up to it:

“I said, ‘Yo, let’s go outside and get a car scene.’ I’m trying to get him out of there ’cause Luda’s in there [mimics Luda rapping]. Luda’s mad ill. I didn’t want Kanye to see that he’s a little crazy over the other beat. So under the car light I film him and he’s still rapping and going in like, ‘Killin’…Louis Vuitton…Versace….’ I don’t know, it was long, but two of the f—–g free styles he did is records he got out now. The Thing that’ bugged out is I filmed him after it was over like, ‘All right my n—a I’ll talk to you later,’ so he’s in the car heated and just peels off. I’m like, ‘Whew,’ and I go back in the studio and we get a phone call and they call 3H, cause you know 3H and Kanye’s really close.

3H came up to me and said, ‘Yo, Kanye just flipped his car. He flipped his s–t and he’s in the hospital right now.’ Once he did that then his mixtape came out and he showed his face. I think that if I hadn’t really angered him, or…I don’t know if he was really angry or maybe he drove too fast…I don’t know but we did film [it]. We have it documented.”

Crazy stuff here, folks. What’s your take on Kanye’s accident?
